 Role Overview: 

CarboCode (www.carbocode.com) is a biotech company active in technology development of carbohydrate-containing biomolecules such as oligosaccharides, glycoconjugates, glycolipids and glycoproteins using both in vitro and in vivo biotechnology. Human natural lipid and oligosaccharide molecule-based food, cosmetic and health care products despite being at high customer demand are currently not available at the market due to the complexity of their synthesis. CarboCode is a company that aspires to improve human health and well-being by making human natural lipid and oligosaccharide molecules widely available. CarboCode core capabilities spans a variety of technologies spanning through advanced chemical synthesis, to biocatalysis and biotechnological production.

We are seeking a talented and motivated Biocatalysis Scientist to join our Technology Transfer Center team in Biocant Park, Cantanhede, Portugal. This position is full-time employment, ideally suited for someone who wants to work in a fast-growing international biotech company and an exceptionally dynamic and interdisciplinary team that may include shift work.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support technology transfer of enzymatic reactions from bench scale to pilot scale and then to industrial scale.
• Conduct feasibility studies on a pilot scale for biocatalytic reactions by using carbohydrate processing enzymes.
• Carryout enzymatic processes characterization and validation.
• Define SOP or Master Technique for the developed processes.

Qualifications and requirements:

• Degree in Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, Biochemistry or similar. 
• Experience applying carbohydrate active enzymes in biocatalytic synthesis is essential.
• Experience in enzymatic reactions optimization.
• Experience in industrial biotechnology and food ingredients production is a plus.
• Fluent in English and ability to work in an international and dynamic team.
